What is the role of business in reaching the Sustainable Development Goals?

Companies are key actors in contributing to the delivery of the SDGs and now more than ever are expected to take the lead on societal change. According to research, purpose-driven companies witness higher market share gains and grow three times faster on average than their competitors (Deloitte, 2020 Global Marketing Trends). However, still few companies have adopted sustainable business practices on a permanent basis.

There is a clear lack of training opportunities and good practices that can inspire young entrepreneurs to embrace socially responsible strategies in their businesses. Stars4SD will provide training and support to young entrepreneurs on how to meet 5 of the 17 SDGs, namely provide quality education to youth entrepreneurs (4), gender equality (5), decent work and economic growth (8), reduced inequalities (10) and responsible consumption and production (12).

In particular, the Stars4SD project will develop an innovative methodology to strengthen youth entrepreneurial skills and an award scheme to evaluate the sustainability of youth-led businesses. Finally, an online network will bring together young entrepreneurs and youth workers, fostering the exchange of ideas and peer learning.

All the materials and methodologies developed during the two-year of the project will then be used by business agencies, chambers of commerce and training centres for the purpose of guiding and training aspiring entrepreneurs.
