The project “Raising the Rights of Elderly People and Elderly care Services to the EU Standards” has been launched. It is co-financed by the European Union and the Republic of Turkey through the “Civil Society Dialogue between EU and Turkey-III” programme.

The aim of the project is to analyse and to study politics and existing models of assistance and care of elderly people in EU countries in order to improve the quality of those services in Turkey. It promotes the transfer of good practices, too.

Different tools will be used to reach this goal: researches, administration of questionnaires (both for managers of elderly care services and to service’s users), study visits and development of a book collecting all the results and knowledge acquired.

The first of the planned study visits has been carried out in Palermo, from the 10th to the 14th of February, involving representatives of the Yorturk Foundation of Ankara (leading organisation of the project). They have visited different types of organisations providing assistance to elderly: nursing homes, shelters and also voluntary organisations committed to increase the active participation and roles of older people into the society.

Widespread appreciation about this opportunity of sharing was expressed by the local centres involved in the study visit.

Shortly, the research will be launched and new study visits will be carried out.
