How to increase youth’s ability to support their peers, guiding them towards conscious and responsible choices?

Peer to Peer Players‘ main objective is to foster the psychosocial well-being of young people by nurturing responsible choices good for their health, so that youths of the same age can support each other in a perspective of mutual responsibility and trust.

The project is addressed to the young girls and boys of the city of Palermo, particularly, to the students of the schools in the historical centre of the city and it aims at preventing the use and procurement of psychoactive substances and promoting a greater awareness in the use of the web, with a special attention to the devices (smartphones, tablets) more widespread among young people.

To encourage peer support, the project includes the creation of a network of peer-counselors and the setting up of a peer support service within the schools, useful and efficient for:

  • promoting the general well-being of young people;
  • strengthening the sense of responsibility and trust among peers;
  • guiding the protection of youths’ own health and the conscious use of the web;
  • strengthening other active services within the schools involved and the territory, from the perspective of systemic collaboration.

Among the activities of the project there is also the research on the knowledge and risk behaviours of young people regarding the use of the web and psychoactive substances harmful to health.

Thanks to such research, it will be possible to identify the risks, on which an ideas contest will be based. This ideas contest is aimed at creating the contents of a game App for smartphones, which will promote the proposed issues. The two young winners of the contest will receive a tablet as a prize to promote the positive use of the web.

In order to carry out a wide promotion of the psychosocial well-being of young people, the project provides for several infoday events targeted at young people, where will be a perfect occasion to inform and raise awareness on the issues proposed by the project.
