The “NewTwin EU Dissemination Seminar” – second and last meeting within the NewTwin project – took place in Palermo from 14th to 19th November. 16 representatives and employees of different municipalities coming from Latvia, Cyprus, Romania, Bulgaria, Denmark, France and Italy attended the seminar.
The project was co-funded by the European Commission within the Programme “Europe for Citizens”, Action 1.2.2, and coordinated by CESIE (Centre for European Studies and Initiatives); it aims at collecting innovative ideas to revitalize and promote town twinning projects, to improve the management of European projects and to make new suggestions to be presented within the deadline of “Europe for Citizens” Programme.
The seminar’s sessions was focused on European projects management, paying more attention to the “Europe for Citizens” Programme, in order to train municipalities’ representatives on the writing of effective and innovative town twinning projects. During the session “Revitalization of town twinning”, held in the wonderful setting of Villa Niscemi, participants had the opportunity to present to local and regional representatives their own cities and the town twinning projects they are actively involved in.
The NewTwin Manual – created as a result of the work done during the first meeting of the project, the Youth Forum, that was held in Palermo last July – was presented during the seminar. It was developed and published by CESIE with the support of partners from 7 EU countries. The Manual is a collection of innovative ideas, practical suggestions, tools and best practices for town twinning projects. It will be disseminated through follow-up activities that will take place in the partner cities, with the aim of encouraging institutions and the civil society to develop new and more effective town twinning projects. The Manual will be available to download from the website from the 23rd December 2011.
