The concept of social leadership and social innovation in sport was brought to the forefront as part of a final event to launch an online course via a gamification-based learning platform and mobile game app for IOS and Android created to improve voluntary-based social leadership and social innovation skills for sports volunteers across Europe.
The ESVOL project aims to facilitate innovative learning practices in social leadership and social innovation in sport through the creation of useful tools that will help sport volunteers to develop their leadership and innovation skills according to their future aspirations and business ideas.
During the online event, the final project results were showcased to young volunteers, project mangers and trainers working in the field of non-formal education, sport and volunteering services. The event offered space to discuss how volunteers through the ESVOL resources, can be enabled to lead the creation of new projects and produce innovative solutions to address societal challenges by using sport as a tool. During a practical session, participants tested out the learning platform and mobile app game and offered feedback on how the resources can improve their skills and be applied to their voluntary work.
Over the last 28 months, the ESVOL project has supported capacity building of sport-based volunteering through the promotion of social leadership and social innovation skills among sport volunteers. Research on good practices, as well as a series of interviews in order to better understand the training needs of people who dedicate their time to sport-based volunteering has led to the development of the final tools. The project has piloted the online course, gamified platform and mobile app among 150 sports volunteers and stakeholders across Turkey, Italy, Spain, Bulgaria and Greece.
An Impact Assessment Report is now being produced that will provide overall results across the five countries and impact of the tools produced for the sports and volunteering sector.
