On the 1st of July 10 volunteers will arrive in Palermo from France, Estonia, Spain and Hungary. They are ready to live an unique and unforgettable experience for 9 months: Able like you!
Able like you is an European Voluntary Service project that allows the volunteers to support the local staff, offering their personal and professional contribution in various centres of Palermo that work every day with people characterized by mental and physical disabilities.
The group of volunteers arrived in September 2012 , that will finish its volunteering service in July, will have the opportunity to share its experience with the new group.
For this occasion the volunteers have created a booklet in which they have collected their experiences and activities giving some examples about free time and food in Palermo.
Through their energy and commitment, volunteers will improve their skills to overcome their boundaries and to contribute to the social inclusion of this target which is often forced to live on the edge of society.
“Able like you” represents an opportunity, for both the volunteers and the organizations involved, of being part of this social change process that will allows both the local community and people with disabilities to live in harmony in a city without discrimination.
