On February 22, the European Day for Victims of Crime, Victim Support Europe (VSE) will launch The Year of Victims’ Rights, a year-long campaign advocating for a more just and inclusive society for victims of crime. As a proud member of VSE, CESIE ETS is committed to fostering awareness on the importance of victim support.

Victims’ rights are a cornerstone of justice, yet many victims still face barriers to support, protection and access to justice. Through this initiative, VSE and its 80 member organizations seek to address these gaps by promoting three core objectives: universality, progress and engagement.

Throughout 2025, the campaign will bring together citizens, professionals and policymakers to emphasize the crucial role of victim support in building a sustainable future. Key moments will include:

  • february: Launch event at the Brussels Press Club – Once Upon a Support – celebrating 35 years of the European Day for Victims of Crime.
  • may: VSE’s Annual Conference in Lisbon – 35 Years of Victim Support Europe.
  • november: More Than Words – a joint VSE/UN event marking the 40th anniversary of the UN’s Declaration of Basic Principles of Justice for Victims of Crime and Abuse of Power.

At CESIE ETS, we recognize the fundamental importance of providing comprehensive victim support services. Our engagement in The Year of Victims’ Rights aligns with our broader efforts to promote justice, equality, and human rights. Throughout the year, we will participate in events, share knowledge, and advocate for stronger policies to uphold victims’ rights across Europe.

The campaign sets out seven key priorities, including advancing the recognition of victims’ rights, integrating victim support into EU policies, and ensuring sustainable funding for victim services. By working collectively, we can drive systemic change and build a society where victims are heard, supported and empowered.

In this regard, CESIE ETS, through ASIT, is working to strengthen cooperation between professionals and institutions in the fight against organized crime and in the protection of victims of trafficking and exploitation. Aligned with the objectives of The Year of Victims’ Rights, ASIT promotes a coordinated approach to improving access to justice and ensuring a more effective and inclusive response to victims’ needs.

Join us in supporting this crucial initiative. Follow the campaign, share victims’ stories and advocate for stronger victim support systems. Together, we can make 2025 a defining year for victims’ rights.
