COYOUTH Combating multiple discrimination in youth
This Multi-Measure project (DG EACEA Youth in Action 4.3 Training and Networking), is composed by 2 Training Courses to be held in Palermo (Italy), based on youth multiple discrimination and social exclusion, as a follow up of the EU Year 2010 for Combating Poverty and Social Exclusion. CESIE attended different activities organised in occasion of the EU Year, and continued implementing projects and activities at local, European and international levels to combat poverty and social exclusion..
The 1st TC “COYOUTH – Combating multiple discrimination in youth” to be held in Palermo, 3rd – 11th June 2012 will focus on the study and knowledge of the phenomenon of discrimination on the basis of a range of grounds operating separately: age, gender, race, sexual orientation, disability, etc. This kind of discrimination, not still well known, aggravates the situation of many young people, and is responsible of lack of opportunities, poverty and exclusion in Europe, so new skills and knowledge is needed on the field. The TC will ensure the acquisition of flexible competences to deal with it.
COYOUTH will ensure that cultural diversity is seen as a positive feature of our society, raising the awareness about the difficulties that young people from ethnic minorities or migrants could face when being discriminated by one or more causes related to their cultural diversity. Strategies learnt by participants will enable a multiplying effect, and new methods developed by the group will be transferred to the participants of the “MULTIACTION” TC, ensuring the exploitation of results.
The 2nd TC “MULTIACTION – Multiple actions against exclusion” to be held again in Palermo by the end of 2012, will apply the previously acquired capacity-building, skills transfer and empowerment expertise to actors working with young people socially excluded, including those who are excluded because victims of multiple discrimination.
The project aims to provide youth workers, leaders and peer educators working with/for young people with fewer opportunities with the necessary innovative skills to empower them and to improve their work developed at local and European level through the creation of new partnerships and projects. The partnership is composed by 15 partners from: Italy, Bulgaria, France, Latvia, Lithuania, Portugal, Romania, Malta, Germany, Turkey, Estonia and Slovakia.
COYOUTH TC, attended by 32 participants, will last 8 days and will use non formal methodologies and activities, promoting the social and personal development and active participation and involvement of participants.
