This project is to raise the awareness about the difficult problems of violence that feature our societies nowadays, and to incite young people to reflect and act on it. The project will approach violence in a general way as we aim to include diverse types of violence that are common in the diverse European countries. This way we can include problems such as gangs, home violence, bullying, or Mafia and organized crime. The main goal of the course will be to learn about the diverse forms violence can take and to learn how to use theatre and video to prevent it and to motivate youth to be active in fighting them in their daily realities.
Before the meeting, participants together with their partners organizations will make a research on the most common type of violence in their own country. About the problems hat present in their society, what affects it the most. During the workshop, participants will discuss together about the different kinds of violence present in our societies and discover creative methods to promote the culture of peace in their own communities, working with their peers. Expressive theatre and video workshop will be two of the main activities developed during the days of the meeting, which will enable participants to acquire competences to raise the awareness about violence, learning how to use their bodies in theatre and the power of images to violence prevention. At the end, they will create a video promoting peace and non-violent attitudes, where they put in practice their abilities as young actors and young video-producers. That video will be presented the last day in a school of Palermo with young local people. During the follow-up, the video will be disseminated in Europe through youth organizations and institutions working with young people to raise the awareness about the importance of the role of young people in the fight against violence.
