Would you like to work in a socially active youth community in a Unesco World Heritage rural area? CESIE is looking for a volunteer under the EVS programme to be involved in the activities of the Hungarian organization “Creative Space”, under the project “Creative Waves” in Hollóko (Hungary) for six months, starting from April-May 2013.
The coordinating organization “Creative Space” has created a very organized programme of activities in order to make rural community development happen in Nógrád county region. The main objective is to increase European awareness, mobility, solidarity and employability in the local area. The EVS volunteers will inspire local youth by giving good examples of being European citizens and ready to take initiative. Their presence will bring intercultural context in the rural social life.
“Creative Space” community is located in a village called Hollóko. The nature around the village is beautiful, relaxing and has a lot of opportunities for biking, hiking, camping and different kind of outdoor activities. In the village there are 400 inhabitants. Budapest is about 100 km, there are 2 direct buses /day and some more with an interchange.
The centre is located at the edge of the village, next to the forest. Washing machine, wireless internet, cooking equipments and bikes are provided. “Creative Space” will also rent a car or minivan which will be accessible to use also for those volunteers who have a driving licence and whose driving skills prove to be sufficient. The centre is divided in a stone building that works as group accommodation place and centre for youth projects; a campsite composed of five wooden bungalows which serve as accommodation for volunteers, temporary and permanent staff; and a small campsite for campervans and tents, with a fundraising purpose. The own initiative of volunteers are very valorised and welcome all along the project. As a volunteer, you can be involved in the following tasks:
- Giving information about opportunities for youth connected to studies, jobs, volunteering, travelling, promoting local social and cultural events;
- Activities related to heritage protection: e.g. collecting and scanning old photos, cataloguing book donations to the local libraries, noting down old recipes.
- Activities related to the protection of nature and promotion of tourism: cleaning paths and wells, marking paths, . cleaning the forest, painting tourist signs, painting the buildings, etc.
- Organizing play-sessions and sport events for children, families, young parents;
- Creating media materials about the activities, promoting the offers of accommodation for tourism development: updating the website, the blog and the Facebook page of the centre.
- Support in daily life work: small renovations and decorations, gardening, fixing bikes, coking, laundry, clearing, etc.
The volunteers will work from Tuesday till Saturday for 6-7 hours per day, Hungarian language lessons (2hours per week) and mentor meetings (2 hours per two weeks) included. They will get 2 days off extra in every months. The pocket money will be given in the first working day of every month (95€). They will cook for themselves, ingredients and cooking equipments will be provided.
“Creative Space” was officially established in 2010 in Nógrád county, which is one of the most disadvantaged regions of Hungary, needing an improvement in rural community development and where the organization had already been present for 10 years. The target group are mainly the local children and youth, that they try to involve in local voluntary actions and then in intercultural/international activities in order to enable them to take responsibility in their life and initiative in their communities.
