Socio-economic inclusion and well-being for senior citizens present critical challenges in today’s labour market, where age discrimination unfortunately persists. Concurrently, the Green Business sector offers untapped and rapidly growing opportunities.

The GBS project aims to bridge this gap by motivating and equipping senior citizens to embark on self-employment ventures within the Green Business domain, transforming their potential into a tangible contribution to both the economy and the environment, thereby fostering economic independence and social inclusion.

By enhancing their socio-economic inclusion and well-being, GBS aligns with the EU’s Strategy for Inclusion and Diversity (2021), promoting equality and access to high-quality learning for adults.

GBS focuses on:

  • Encouraging seniors to pursue self-employment in green businesses.
  • Developing a flexible, digitally-supported mentoring pathway to enhance seniors’ entrepreneurial skills.
  • Recognizing learners’ competencies through a digital assessment tool.
  • Strengthening adult educators’ capacity to facilitate digital learning.

Workshop content – Possibilities and challenges for senior citizens in green business for a sustainable environment

GBS has developed a comprehensive workshop to inspire and equip senior citizens with the necessary tools to venture into green entrepreneurship. The workshop includes:

  • Presentation: “Possibilities and Challenges for Senior Citizens in Green Business for a Sustainable Environment”.
  • Personal Stories: Collection of personal stories based on storytelling.
  • Media Resources: Collection of stories from media resources.
  • Interactive Game: “My personal skills and strengths for starting a green business – how to develop them”.
  • Electronic Guide: “Learning through the mentoring process ‘Growing my skills to start a green business'”.

In the coming months, there will be opportunities to participate in face-to-face activities such as motivational workshops. These events aim to:

  • Provide insights into opportunities and challenges in the green business sector.
  • Offer interactive sessions to identify personal strengths and skills.
  • Guide starting and sustaining a green business.
