Is it possible to improve digital skills, explore different cultures and facilitate social inclusion at the same time?

Within the DISC project, we are creating and experimenting the Multisensory Space – a space where multidimensional learning becomes possible.

The Multisensory Space

The Multisensory Space is an innovative methodology that uses a combination of material and virtual elements to activate all senses and support the learning process.

The Multisensory Space method has already been used in Finland for intercultural encountersidentity negotiations as well as digital and multisensory learning. It makes individual stories visible and allows people to enter different cultural, mental and psychological worlds, thus facilitating shared understandingdeveloping empathy and capacity building. The Multisensory Space is also a great tool to strengthen community by enhancing the sense of belonging and active citizenship.

The Training in Palermo

In Palermo, the Multisensory Space will be tested from the 6th of November 2019 until the 13th of December 2019 with a group of young people coming from different countries and cultures who will create their own multimedia creations telling stories about their culture, lives and aspirations. During the workshops, participants will develop digital content with the support of trainers and facilitators and set up the physical environment of the Multisensory Space in order to complement their virtual creations. The final result will be an all-embracing scene of virtual elements – such as videos, pictures, music or sounds and material elements – decorations, foods, scents etc. that will be presented in an inauguration ceremony the 13th December 2019 at the end of the workshop.

In this way, the participants will have the opportunity to “invite” other people to their own world and share anything they wish to.
