Digital storytelling is a creative way to communicate stories, experiences or ideas using the potential of the tools offered by the web. This type of narrative is built by putting together various elements that can be combined such as video, audio, text, images, maps.
Why is it important to integrate storytelling and digital storymapping in educational processes?
Tell Your Story project was designed to explore the use of digital storytelling and storymapping in education in order to contrast early school leaving.
The most successful pedagogical approaches for the reintegration of early school leavers in education are flexible, inclusive and participatory, tailored to the needs of young people, aimed at the development of their careers, and include a variety of possible approaches, such as mentoring.
Teachers, educators and youth workers benefited from an innovative method for working with young people at risk, participating at the final event of the project.
In October 2018, CESIE has organised an event at Scuola Alberghiero Piazza in Palermo, CESIE has presented the outputs of the project and shared guidelines on how to use the materials developed within the project.
Moreover, an assessment activities and discussion was held on the importance of non-formal methods to prevent early school leaving and promote social inclusion and motivation of students.
Storytelling can be used as a didactical approach in education. Its main strengths are in their appeal, variety and accessibility. Stories are also engaging and easy to remember. Storytelling helps to share experiences, explain events and phenomena and transfer knowledge.
The Publication– Preventing early drop-out through digital stories and maps in Italian has been shared with all participants. It is free, available in English, French, German, Slovenian, downloable online.
