This year CESIE wants to celebrate the 21st of May focusing on what we and you can really do together, not only to save the date, but also to involve and raise people’s awareness on tolerance and promotion of cultural diversity.

Bridging the gap between cultures is not only urgent and necessary for peace, stability and development, but also an interesting and exciting action that may take a series of forms. As an NGO, deeply concerned about peace, social cohesion and sustainability, CESIE is currently running several projects concerning the promotion of culture and multiculturalism in our societies.

We want to contribute especially in view of the upcoming European elections.

How do we do it?

Platform for Voice– EUnify project (financed by the Open Society Foundation in Europe).

The project aims to provide a platform for voice for those marginalised from the centre of power by identifying and communicating key messages to combat sexist, racist and xenophobic speech by those seeking (re)election in 2014.

We are against racism in politics! We do our part, and you?

Make your voice heard: take a #selfie and use #eUnify #iDoMyPart

Another example is the ‘Feel it! Feel the Difference’project, that aims at building a bridge between local and migrant communities and at teaching tolerance and mutual respect. Within the project we asked participants and coordinators what is their idea of cultural diversity, how it makes our lives richer and which are the ways to feel it.

In 2012, CESIE already celebrated the tenth anniversary of the World Day for Cultural Diversity for Dialogue and Development. (Read more here).

On the occasion of this day you can also put your mark on supporting cultural diversity:

Watch a foreign movie, learn “Good morning” in another language, join a volunteer action or organize one, try the ethnic fast food restaurant behind the corner, or simply tell your friends about the day.
