What are the viable pathways for European academic institutions to overcome the impediments to integrating sustainable practices and defining indicators that effectively attest to their progress?
In the ongoing search for strategies that can make our societies more sustainable, the ABCinENERGY consortium has joined forces to develop a document presenting relevant best practices in sustainable energy management. The Roadmap to pivot change in energy consumption is finally available!
The idea behind ABCinENERGY is precisely to encourage a change in energy consumption habits in European higher education institutions and universities. However, the development of new tools that can catalyse this change requires a preparatory research phase in order to analyse the starting point of the universities involved in the project in terms of energy consumption. Furthermore, when observing the status quo, it is particularly important to pay attention to noteworthy initiatives implemented by each institution involved.
With this in mind, the ABCinENERGY consortium has spent months conducting in-depth research on energy consumption, thus developing a roadmap for implementing green energy transition principles.
The first phase of the research obviously involved an analysis of the national and regional policies in place at each of the universities involved, in order to observe not only the legislative requirements and restrictions imposed on energy consumption, but also to keep an eye on national objectives in terms of green transition.
The document then goes on to identify good practices and challenges encountered at national level in the countries involved. This step is closely linked to the theme of the next chapter, which looks at real data that allows for the most empirical observation possible, thus ensuring the relevance of the research.
The roadmap concludes with possible ways forward for implementing strategies that improve national situations, thanks to the adoption of the most relevant practices in each country, while at the same time responding to the specific problems of each situation faced by the various institutions.
The Roadmap is now available in all consortium languages and can be downloaded from the project website! Furthermore, over the coming months, the ABCinENERGY consortium will further develop the research results, creating an even more advanced and impactful resource. If you are interested in finding out more about the research and how to improve energy efficiency and sustainability, follow the project’s social media channels to stay up to date on the future of the Roadmap and ABCinENERGY!
