On September the 10th the first Playmaker Camp took place at the Parco delle Salute, with more than 30 young people participating. They had the chance to try out street cricket and street basketball. The outstanding success of the Camp has been continuously increasing over the past week, involving more and more locals from different social contexts and with different expectations.
As an innovative example of street sport for social inclusion in Palermo, the first days of Playmaker Camp gave us the chance to make young people understand the educational value of sport. It can boost young people’s personal growth as well as easing integration between people from diverse social contexts.
Twice a week, participants will be involved in sport-based activities designed for them and tailored to their needs in terms of sport outcomes and educational outcomes. Among these our team is committed to foster self-confidence and team building as well as promoting a positive environment free of discrimination and inclusive for all.
The project also includes an important sporting event in collaboration with CAS Nuovi Orizzonti and the municipality of Marineo, a shelter for refugees in Marineo (PA), that will be held on October the 2nd. The event will be hosted by the “Mario Francese” school and will represent the starting point for a series of sporting events for the guests of the shelter.
