How to better prepare professionals to manage diversity in their work with newcomers? Which skills do they need to increase? How to raise awareness on these issues and involve our local communities more actively?
These are a couple of the questions the DICE – Diversity, Inclusion, Citizenship, Empowerment project has aimed at finding answers to in its two-year journey.
The project, uniting five partners from France, Poland, Cyprus, the Netherlands and Italy, has celebrated its conclusion the last Friday, 18th September, at Moltivolti, a social coworking space and ethnic restaurant located in the heart of one of Palermo’s historic centres “Ballarò”. The final event in Italy provided the audience not only with the opportunity to discover the resources created by the project team, among them the DICE Training Manual for professionals working with newcomers, the DICE e-learning platform as well as the DICE Feasibility Guide on validation methods, but also to share their ideas and discuss new approaches to community involvement.
At the heart of the event was the presentation of the project’s social media awareness campaign “Roll the DICE!”, in which three newcomers living in Palermo share a part of their personal stories, in order to build bridges to those who are not familiar with cultural differences or the individual stories behind the phenomenon “migration”. With special participation from two of the three newcomers, who took the opportunity to share their personal point of view on migration in Italy, the local audience engaged in discussions on how to stimulate a broader community involvement. Thus, the implemented workshop aimed at finding innovative ideas to create more inclusive and tolerant societies.
In this way, the DICE final event laid the basis for future collaborations and new local and European initiatives in the field of diversity management, social inclusion, active citizenship and empowerment of all migration stakeholders as well as our whole communities.
