Action for Change – Progetti Pilota per le vittime di violenza domesticaThe Romanian partners of Action for Change, CFCECAS, hosted the third transnational meeting of the project in Bucharest in October 2015. The meeting provided the chance to share results and project activity progress among the institutions involved in Action for Change, as well as to give continuity to the discussion started in Budapest last July on the engagement and activities of the Women’s Shadow Board, a committee composed of domestic violence survivors actively contributing in Action for Change.

The highlights of the meeting were focused around the beginning, in Italy, the UK, Romania and Hungary, of the delivery of services specially tailored to support women victims of domestic violence in their path to the care of their children in spite of the trauma they have suffered.

All partners reported local pilot projects to have kicked off, engaging a varying number of survivors in the service. The specificity of the pilot projects lies in their uniqueness for each of the contexts where they are offered. In this sense, Action for Change project partners share the same aim and ultimately the same expected results from the project; however, they acknowledge the obvious differences in the social service systems of their countries, especially when it comes to the removal of children from domestic violence survivors, and envisage country-specific strategies to contribute to the return of children to the mothers whom the Action for Change pilot projects are targeting. The pilot projects are now undergoing an internal initial evaluation by the project partners through interviews with the service clients.

Local groups of women survivors are working with each other to organize awareness-raising events in their countries, while being empowered by the same events they lead. The partnership and the representatives of the Romanian Women’s Shadow Board discussed a shared calendar of events around key dates for the fight against domestic violence. The Women’s Shadow Board from the UK, Romania, Hungary and Italy are now planning events in occasion of the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women. News from such events will be soon available on the Action for Change project website.

Action for Change project partners and the Italian Women’s Shadow Board will meet again in March 2016 in Perugia (Italy) to discuss the progress of the project and the evaluation of the first months of activity of the pilot projects.
