Is it possible to turn scientific research into enterprise opportunity?

On Tuesday, December 5, the final event of the SCIENT project, the project funded by the ERASMUS + training program for doctoral students and PhDs, will be held in Castelbuono (PA) at Istituto Superiore “Luigi Failla Tedaldi”.

More than 100 students, PhDs, researchers across Europe have participated in the project’s entrepreneurship training program and 30 of them from 7 different countries (Cyprus, Italy, Lithuania, Malta, Portugal, United Kingdom, Spain) presented their entrepreneurial ideas to a selected audience of experts, lecturers and potential investors during the International Business Plan Competition held in Cyprus in September 2017.

During the final event, two of the young Sicilian entrepreneurs will share their experience gained thanks to the project.

Simona Todaro will present GEB Track a project for the creation of a “social” bus, obtained from the re-adaptation of a standard truck, which can accompany naturalistic tourists in off-road routes.

Salvatore Tramonte, who received the Jury’s Special Award for Highly Innovative Content in the BP Competition, will tell about the idea of EyeHome, a revolutionary system integrating a modular smart home system with an eye controlled based interface. The system is designed in particular for people with severe muscular diseases to help them in the manage of their disease, increasing the quality of their life.

The event will also be a useful opportunity to learn more about the SCIENT training package for those who want to start a business that will be presented by Stefania Zanna.

SCIENT: a European University-Business Alliance aimed at fostering young SCIentists’ ENTrepreneurial Spirit is a project funded by the ERASMUS+ Programme –  KA2 Knowledge Alliances.

The project – addressed to graduates, doctoral students and research doctors involved in Engineering,  Mathematics, ICT and Information Sciences, Biological and Biomedical Sciences, Physics, Agricultural sciences, Natural Sciences, Social Science – envisaged the development of the first European pre-acceleration program for innovative entrepreneurship through the provision of a training package and accompanying path for the development of innovative entrepreneurial ideas.
