How can we transform awareness about energy saving into a measurable, engaging, and daily habit? As sustainability policies advance across the continent, European Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) face a crucial imperative: not just to reduce consumption, but to inspire their communities towards lasting behavioural change.
To bridge this gap, ABCinENERGY was conceived, an Erasmus+ project focused on making sustainable energy consumption commonplace in universities.
This November 2025 marks a pivotal phase for the project: the pilot test of the Habit Tracker Platform (HTP). This digital platform is not merely a monitoring tool; it is a dynamic, gamified virtual environment specifically designed to measure and, critically, stimulate improved energy saving habits among all registered users.
Through daily quizzes and an aggregated scoring system, the HTP turns reflecting on one’s actions into a healthy competition. This initial pilot phase is engaging students and staff from five consortium universities, comparing their “sustainability scores” to see which institution will shine the brightest.
The indirect goal? To prompt people to acknowledge their impact and encourage them to improve it in the long term.
If you are a part of the Universities of Novi Sad, Palermo, Alicante, Montpellier, or Vilnius Tech, the time to get involved is now. Are you ready to take your University to the top of the sustainability league table?
