Home Eventi - CESIE ETS Red Flags and boundaries: understanding online sexism – from everyday violence to criminal acts

Online sexism isn’t just about explicit insults or hate speech.
It often appears through seemingly “harmless” acts: jokes, comments, images or interactions that reinforce stereotypes and normalize gender-based violence. But where is the line between inappropriate behaviour and digital violence? And what are the warning signs – the red flags – we should all learn to recognize?

To explore these questions, join the free webinar “Red Flags & Boundaries: Understanding Online Sexism – from Everyday Violence to Criminal Acts”, organised within the European project CHASE – Combatting online Hate Speech by engaging online mEdia, and led by expert Debora Barletta.

Wednesday, 30 October 2025 | 4:00 PM (CET)

Live on Facebook and YouTube

Why to join

  • Learn to recognise the many forms of online sexism and digital violence, from normalized behaviours to actual crimes.
  • Discover practical tools to react, report, and prevent online hate and gender-based harassment.
  • Take part in an interactive discussion to build a safer, more aware digital environment together.

After the webinar you can receive a certificate of attendance upon request.

What we’ll talk about

  • Introduction to the CHASE Project. Presentation of project goals and local actions to counter gender-based hate speech.
  • How much do we really know? An interactive quiz on key terms and real data – stalking, hate speech, revenge porn, groping, doxxing, slut-shaming – followed by a short explanation and group discussion.
  • Red Flags and the Pyramid of Sexism. Understanding how everyday attitudes can escalate into violence and discrimination, up to criminal acts.
  • How to respond and where to find reliable resources. Strategies to react effectively, useful sources, and support tools for those experiencing or witnessing online gender-based violence.
  • Q&A and interactive closing
