Mental health is a positive concept closely linked to the social and emotional well-being of individuals and their respective communities, which cannot be reduced to the mere absence of psychological disorders. It must be seen, instead, as a state of well-being in which every individual realizes his or her own potential, can cope with daily stress, works productively and fruitfully, and actively makes a contribution to her or his community.
Co-funded by the Erasmus+ programme KA2: strategic partnerships for Adult education, five partner organisations from Wales, France, Portugal, England and Italy have recently launched the project “MEW: Supporting Mental and Emotional Well-Being“. The MEW project aims at helping individuals across all sectors develop their skills, attitudes and mindset in order for them to become active citizens, feeling more positive, confident and in control when struggling with challenges at work and in their environment.
The main objective is to promote awareness, understanding and improvement of mental and emotional well-being on a personal level through an innovative educational methodology that facilitates the development of five training modules. Each topic has been chosen based on common social factors that affect our emotional well-being in real life dynamics. This training, which will take place through the creation of an online platform accessible to anyone who wants to deepen their understanding on the subject, aims to improve the self-esteem, confidence and assertiveness of participants, teaching them some of the most effective relaxation techniques and the management of difficult and stressful situations both at work and in everyday life, among others
The project’s Kick-off meeting took place on 2nd and 3rd December 2019, bringing together all partners in Cardiff, Wales hosted by the project Coordinator CCW – Training Academy Limited. The meeting was the first opportunity to meet and discuss the different responsibilities and roles of individual partners, upcoming activities, and the effectiveness of an integrated non-formal approach to education on mental and emotional well-being.
During the different implementation phases of the project various activities are foreseen. Hand in hand with local government authorities, non-profit organisations and stakeholders working in different areas of mental health, the partners will develop the five training modules. Once this initial phase is completed, the partners will focus on the creation of multimedia material to support the theoretical content of the modules, such as video production, the creation of an interactive game and the review of best practices currently existing. Finally, an interactive e-learning platform will be developed to facilitate the use of the 5 modules integrating the training programme, ensuring the widest accessibility to the results of the project in Europe.
