Have you ever taken part in the creation of an urban garden? Do you want to be part of a project that links your passion for zero-mile food and respect for nature to the knowledge of other cultures? Do you want to live an experience that will enhance your knowledge, allowing you to visit far countries and meet people from other continents?
CESIE – European Centre of Studies and Initiatives is the coordinator of the project “Digging Deep”, co-funded by the European Commission, action 3. 2 of the Youth in Action programme. With us, three other associations from three different continents will participate: KID PINA (Slovenia) from our Europe, CANGO (China) from the far Asia and IYEC (Ghana) from the tropical Africa.
The aim of the project is to explore in youth work the issue of urban gardens as a means of social inclusion for young people in the society in order to develop their skills in specific fields, stimulating their active participation, raising their awareness on some fundamental issues such as health and environmental sustainability.
The project envisages the following events:
- an international workshop in Palermo in April 2014 on urban gardens involving participants coming from China, Ghana and Slovenia;
- the establishment of the Urban Gardening Local Clubs that will organise 6 local workshops to create an urban garden in the heart of Palermo. Moreover, a guide on how to create an urban garden will be developed in cooperation with young people coming from Slovenia, Ghana and China;
- An international final workshop in Accra, Ghana, in October 2014 (participants will pay the 20% of flight ticket + visa).
CESIE is looking for 8 participants corresponding to the following profiles:
- 1 Youth Leaders
- 1 Illustrator/cartoonist
- 2 Youth Educators
- 2 Young agronomists/farmers
- 2 young people belonging to a migrant community
