Themed talk – EU School 2026
Gianna Cappello, sociologist and lecturer at the University of Palermo, presents Teachers 4.0 Digital within the context of EU SCHOOL: a talk focusing on digital disinformation and the role of media literacy in building a more informed and inclusive school.
We look forward to seeing you there
Tuesday 20 October 2026 | 3.45 pm – 4.30 pm
Officine Bellotti
Via Antonio Gagini 31, Palermo
In an increasingly digital and multicultural school environment, fake news, informational bias, manipulated content and information that is difficult to verify are now part of everyday life in the classroom. Developing media literacy and digital citizenship skills therefore means providing teaching staff with the tools to guide pupils in understanding information, verifying sources and developing a critical eye towards the content they encounter online.
During the talk, Gianna Cappello will explore the Teachers 4.0 Digital, which is dedicated to training teaching staff to tackle one of the most pressing challenges facing schools today: digital disinformation.
The objectives of Teachers 4.0 Digital will be presented, alongside the teaching materials and e-learning platform developed to provide methodologies and tools for recognising, understanding and countering disinformation, and for integrating these issues into educational practice.
The event will also provide an opportunity to reflect on the role of media and digital literacy in promoting inclusion, participation and informed citizenship, and on how critical thinking can help younger generations navigate the current information ecosystem with greater awareness.
How to take part
If you work in the field of schooling and education, or if you’d like to explore the topics of disinformation, media literacy and digital citizenship in greater depth, join the talk free of charge and discover tools and approaches for promoting critical thinking in educational settings.

We look forward to seeing you on 20 October at EU SCHOOL.
About the project
Digital literacy and tackling disinformation are among the top three digital skills needed for the 21st century. Teachers need to be equipped with the necessary knowledge and skills to empower their students to think critically, make informed choices online and stay safe whilst continuously building their resilience in the digital world. Teachers 4.0 Digital is a large-scale capacity-building action for the initial training and continuous professional development of teachers across Europe.
