In the age of social media, fake news, and instant communication, disinformation is no longer an exception: it’s a strategy, used to influence opinions, create confusion, and polarize society. So, how much does this strategy influence us—even when we don’t realize it?

The Qyourself Open Day is a moment open to everyone, designed to reflect together on the role of disinformation in our daily lives and on the urgent need to build both personal and collective Media Education that can make us more aware, critical, and free.

Why talk about disinformation today?

Very often, false or distorted news spreads faster than true news, and ends up influencing political choices, social relationships, and our perception of the world.
Newspapers, platforms, algorithms, influencers: media are not just tools of communication, but active agents of storytelling. And in such a complex context, it’s not enough to “be careful”—we must learn to read, decode, and question what we are presented with every day.
In this scenario, investing in Media Education means investing in democracy, critical thinking, and freedom.

• Insights from the anti-disinformation curriculum of the Faculty of Journalism at the University of the Basque Country
