Replace 2 - Primo incontro a Coventry The kick-off meeting of the “Researching Female Genital Mutilation Intervention Programmes Linked to African Communities in the EU – 2” project will take place on 22nd and 23rd of April in Coventry, UK, hosted by the Coventry University (leading partner). The meeting will be followed by a series of methodology workshops from 24th to 26th of April, in which partners will share the main methodologies and approaches in the work with FGM practising communities (Theory domain interviewing, The Behaviour Change Wheel approach, etc.) and other research methods. Among those, CESIE will lead a session on Community Based Action Research approach based on our past experiences mainly in the field of prevention of violence against women and promotion of intercultural dialogue.

The Kick-off meeting will allow partners to plan the next steps of the project: engaging community and stakeholders, and undertaking a series of research actions to collect information from practising communities from Senegal, Gambia, Guinea Bissau and Ghana in Palermo, in Spain and Portugal. Sudanese and Somali communities from UK and Netherlands from the first Replace project (2010-2011) will be also involved in order to evaluate the impact of the Pilot Toolkit for Replacing Approaches to Ending FGM in the EU, and to identify their current readiness to change.

The final aim of the project is to enrich and make a final version of the Toolkit so that becomes a self-sustaining tool for implementing behaviour change approaches to end FGM across the EU.

The pilot Toolkit is already an useful tool for those professionals working with practising communities for ending FGM: http://www.replacefgm.eu/content/replace-fgm-toolkit .

The project is co-financed with the support of the Daphne III programme from the European Commission. To know more and to be part of the implementation of the project, please contact Angela Martinez: partnership@cesie.org  and Soad Ibrahim: soad.ibrahim@cesie.org.
