When was the last time you did something you were afraid to do?

Six months ago, I arrived in this mysterious place called Palermo to partecipate in a volunteering project of the European Solidarity Corps with CESIE ETS. It has shown me so many new, unfamiliar things. I was extremely nervous and afraid that I wouldn’t fit in or that I wouldn’t be good enough for what I had chosen to do. But once again, I proved to myself that life would be boring if I didn’t do the things that made me feel scared, anxious, and excited. Because in the end, I looked at myself and thought, I really did this. And look at me now—I’m growing.

I have met so many amazing people, so saying goodbye was really hard. But after these months, I feel like I had a once-in-a-lifetime experience, and I finally chose growth—that’s exactly what I’ve felt throughout this journey. There were so many challenges and moments where I had to step out of my comfort zone. So don’t be afraid to put yourself out there, because you will only grow stronger by doing the things, that make your heart beat faster.

Thank you, Palermo. It was a pleasure meeting you.

P.S. Here are some pictures of my personal project called Art Therapy. But really, it was just a gathering of people who are also trying to live. Watching them for the past six months was a gift to my soul because it made me realize that the most important thing is simplicity—and being with the people you care about. ❤
