Why to join

Experience the ‘Suminagashi’ practice

Literally, “Suminagashi” means “floating ink” and is an artistic technique that involves painting on water. As the ink floats and disperses across the surface, abstract designs are created, which are then transferred to sheets of paper laid on the water. What makes each piece unique is its unpredictable nature and the absolute impossibility of replicating the result.

Experiencing the Japanese art of ‘Origami

The term ‘origami’ is derived from two Japanese words: ‘ori’ (to fold) and ‘kami’ (paper). With precise folding techniques, a simple sheet of paper can be transformed into a variety of shapes, such as animals, flowers, objects, or even more complex structures. The beauty of origami lies in its ability to transform a flat object, such as a sheet of paper, into a three-dimensional work of art with a simple yet refined folding technique.

Bringing beauty and celebrating diversities

Diversity is everywhere, taking on countless forms, times, and spaces, yet it can meet and unite in the name of a common cause: environmental care. With the involvement of young people, community workers, and youth center staff, YEA and CoRe have decided to celebrate diversity through art and poetry, drawing inspiration from nature as it has been represented in Japanese culture and tradition, to express human feelings and desires.

Every drop used in the suminagashi workshops (“floating ink”) inspired the co-creation of haiku, short Japanese poems, in a safe and relaxing atmosphere.
