Schools and sustainability: ideas and strategies for change – Join the UpSpace Social Cafés
Schools can play a leading role in the transition towards a more sustainable society: integrating sustainability into education means providing the younger generation with the tools and awareness they need to tackle the environmental and social challenges of the future.
As part of UpSpace, we look forward to welcoming you online to our two Social Cafés, ‘Schools and sustainability: ideas and strategies for change’, offering an opportunity for discussion between teachers, industry experts and policy-makers on education for sustainability.

Both events will provide an ideal opportunity to share experiences and proposals and to promote the greater integration of environmental sustainability education into the school system, drawing the attention of the relevant institutions to the needs and conditions required to support schools at national and European level.
The ideas gathered during the two editions of the Social Café will contribute to the drafting of the ‘Policy Recommendations for Education for Sustainable Development’, which aim to set out strategies and priorities for greater integration of sustainability into the education system.

16:00 – 16:05 | Welcome and introduction – Presentation of the meeting and its objectives
16:05 – 16:25 | What needs to change? – Guided discussion on the main challenges in integrating sustainability into education
16:25 – 16:35 | From discussion to priorities – Identification of the most relevant recommendations
16:35 – 16:40 | Conclusions – Summary of the key messages that emerged
Why participate?
The Social Café – in both editions – will be an informal and participatory space for:
- sharing experiences and perspectives on education for sustainability;
- exploring the main challenges and priorities at national and European level;
- contributing to the formulation of policy recommendations for integrating sustainability into education;
- engaging in dialogue with teachers, experts, policy-makers and stakeholders in the sector.

UpSpace is co-funded by the European Commission under the Erasmus+ programme, KA220-SCH – Cooperation partnerships in the field of school education.
The project aims to promote the inclusion of sustainable development in secondary school curricula and to train pupils and teachers in lower and upper secondary schools in the sustainable management and efficient use of natural resources.
