Our ecosystem is violently affected by the upheavals caused by climate change.
More than 4.7 million hectares of forests disappear every year, altering biodiversity and natural habitats of fauna, creating the conditions for the spread of pathogens.
The ecosystem could help mitigate climate change by more than a third by 2030. And that’s not all: it could curb the extinction of many animal species and protect us from future pandemics. We have all the knowledge and tools to reverse the course and save our planet.
We need to re-imagine, recreate, restore.
This is the theme of the official United Nations campaign launched for World Environment Day 2021, an event that this year coincides with the official launch of the United Nations Decade for Ecosystem Restoration 2021-2030 – through a virtual event to be held on June 4th at 1 pm.
The campaign’s goal is to urge urgent action to enhance large-scale investments to revive our damaged ecosystems through a public platform on the environment that involves over 100 countries. We can all do our part to intervene and stop the degradation of ecosystems in every continent and every ocean.
CESIE is committed every day to support the protection of the environment and promote the training of professionals to reduce the environmental impact of production activities.

CRETHINK – Urban regeneration and innovative models of local governance
With the aim of promoting an innovative model of shared, collaborative and polycentric territorial governance, CESIE recently carried out a training course addressed to the Istituto Magistrale “Camillo Finocchiaro Aprile”, engaging young students in the design of a green pedestrian area in front of their school building through virtual workshops based on a participatory and co-creative approach. After the approval of the Municipality of Palermo, the area will be first pedestrianised to be then rigenerated thanks to tactical urbanism interventions funded through a crowdfunding campaign managed by the students themselves.
Inspired by the principles of co-creation and botoom-up approaches in urban contexts, CESIE established a partnership with the local working group responsible for the project implementation, Tu Sei La Città and PUSH.

ECHO-Tourism – Sustainability and sustainable management of tourism services
The testing phase of the ECHO-Tourism project is starting now! We are looking for all professionals in the tourism sector and all other potential beneficiaries, interested in the issues of sustainability and sustainable management of tourism services. The Consortium has developed 3 free resources: 1) an online course on environmental sustainability including 6 training modules: water, energy, food, heritage, mobility, waste management; 2) a guide containing a series of good practices and “eco-practices” to make your business greener and empower your tourists; 3) a consumption monitoring platform, in order to reduce any waste and pay attention to the environmental sustainability… and many other resources to be downloaded for free on: echo-tourism.eu/.

ReFace – Responsibly managing environmental resources to create resilient communities
Though we cannot impede the occurrence of some environmental disasters, we can actively contribute to limit their impact by developing national and European long-term sustainable measures. ReFace aims to support the creation of resilient regions by enhancing public administrations’ and key-stakeholders’ ability to develop effective mechanisms to prevent and overcome disasters, replacing short-sighed decisions with long-term, comprehensive approaches. Partners have analysed the policies and mechanisms currently in place in their countries (Italy, Slovakia, France, Spain) to ensure regional resilience.
