From 2nd to 5th December CESIE hosted the REPLACE 2 Coordinator, David Beecham from Coventry University (UK). The aim of the visit to CESIE office was to meet the staff working in the project, to learn about the progress of the project activities and to train them on the research data analyses using a software.
During the week, the Coordinator had the opportunity to meet the Community Based Researchers from Ethiopia and Eritrea who are working in Italy with CESIE in the research on Female Genital Mutilation practice and to discover barriers to its eradication in the European Union. The discovery of the local situation in Palermo passed through the visit of the main neighbourhoods where CESIE implements its activities as well as of local centres specialised in services to immigrant communities (Giardino di Madre Teresa, Centro Astalli) and another organisation working in the field of the fight against mafias (Libera), currently engaged in a project with CESIE for the integration of immigrants in the labour market (Impresa Etica).
The meeting ended with two days of in-house training on the use of Nvivo software to analyse the data gathered from Community Based Researchers through focus group and interviews with community members.
