Introductory press conference of the

Anti-trafficking Coommittee “Favour and Loveth”

Thursday the 26th of April at 10.30 at the association centre

“Pellegrino della terra” in Via Oreto 206

The new types of slavery are extremely visible in Palermo too. Everyday a great number of young women, many of them underage, Nigerians, Rumanians, Ethiopians, Albanians, are forced to take to the streets of the city and of the Favorita. Threatens, blows, physical abuse are the alternative to prostitution in street or in brothels.

More than 200 girls were killed in Italy, and in Palermo two Nigerian girls dramatically lost their lives. The mafia organizations has rooted in our territory. Nigerian, Rumanian, Albanian mafias are the main ones.

Before our very eyes many tragedies and violence happen.

We say no to human trafficking!

Today it is born the Anti-trafficking Committee “Favour & Loveth”, Associazione Amunì, Azione Cattolica, Centro Siciliano di Documentazione “Peppino Impastato”, CESIE, CISS, Comitato antirazzista migranti Cobas, Comunità Nigeriana di Palermo, DiARiA Palermo, Forum Antirazzista, Gruppo Teatro Totem, I.I.S.S. A. Volta, La Migration – Sportello migranti Lgbt – Arcigay Palermo, Laici Missionari Comboniani, Le Onde, Parrocchia Sant’Antonino, Pellegrino della Terra, Rete 1 Marzo – Giù le frontiere, Santa Chiara, Suore Missionarie Comboniane di Palermo,  UDIPALERMO.

It wants to work to contrast the trafficking phenomenon through many types of interventions, analysis and studies of the trafficking in order to start paths of reflection, comparisons and prevention of the phenomenon; actions of recovery for the enslaved women; awareness campaigns of the citizenship; fight of the mafia organizations, and these are just some examples. The aim of these actions is to highlight, study and fight the phenomenon of trafficking tied to sexual exploitation, and its causes are investigated both in the countries of origin and in our territory starting from the cultural, socio-economic and political-institutional issues of our territory and in particular of the taking root of the organized crime.

We also address to the institutions and in a particular way to the candidates for mayor because they acknowledge, amongst their priorities, the fight of the local and international mafias through meaningful initiatives, and insert in the budget a specific cost component for the fight to the trafficking and for the regain of the enslaved women. We think that it is urgent this type of commitment of the C.A. contributing, with the help of associationism, to open a rehabilitation centre for women who want to leave prostitution and to help women in search for a job.

We think it is urgent and necessary to publicly denounce the violated rights of the exploited women, by putting at the centre of attention the person’s dignity and by putting a working and studying web to carry on prevention and reflection paths on this type of slavery that is the trafficking tied to the sexual exploitation.
