Home / Youth / Second cycle of the CHIMES Creative Workshops – Expressing oneself through dance

The restrictions and measures of social distancing recently experienced have impoverished the social networks of all, especially those of young people, depriving them of time devoted to sociality and making their educational and professional paths more difficult because of the pandemic. It is time to rediscover new horizons of sociality, get involved and recognize the value your own skills to feel once again an integral part of the community to which you belong. Discover how the art of dance can help you achieve your goals!

CESIE is looking for young people eager to experiment and develop their soft skills (self-confidence, relational and social skills, flexibility, teamwork, creative and critical thinking, etc.), which are highly appreciated and indispensable both at a personal, academic and professional level, to propose them a dance workshop that embraces the principles of movement education through which to interpret the theme of social inclusion and give voice to their identity in a post-pandemic scenario that still suffers from the effects of isolation, both on physical and emotional level.

The idea is to invite young people, who were seriously deprived of social spaces in the last two years and whose opportunities to develop important transversal skills have been significantly reduced, affecting their level of self-esteem and self-efficacy, to create in a collaborative way an artistic narration of their emotional experience, exploiting the potential of body language as a means of expression and communication between peers.

Dance, like any art form, has in itself an important educational component enhancing all those skills that are often taken for granted and that instead contribute to make us independent individuals and active citizens, while overcoming differences and teaching the importance of respecting oneself and others.

If you want to test your creativity, develop or improve your skills and try yourself in the artistic representation of an important social issue such as the inclusion and well-being of young peopleCHIMES invites you to participate in the creative dance workshop in order to take part in the collective reflection and give it a body and soul with other young people. At the end of the workshop, a final exhibition will be organized to widespread the voice of young people and to show the (not only) technical skills acquired.

The face-to-face workshop will be held between April and May 2022 in Palermo, within the beautiful context offered by the public garden of Villa Giulia. The course will be available in Italian and English and includes 8 meetings of 2 hours each (15.30 – 17.30), twice a week, according to this calendar: 11, 14, 20, 21, 27, 28 (April) and 2, 5 (May).

Candidate profile:
