This April, CESIE partnered with the Department of Political Sciences and International Relations to present the results of REACH YOUth and to pilot its e-learning platform!
It was a very inspiring moment of sharing, with students actively participating in testing out some of the activities developed as part of the project’s Democracy Intervention Set, aimed at all those who wish to work with under-represented young people who are more exposed to anti-democratic attitudes.
In particular, students found that the group activities proposed were extremely useful as a collaborative way to explore inherent prejudices in a safe environment.
This is just one of the many activities and modules developed since the project kicked off in October 2019. Its objective has been the creation of non-formal education modules to foster a democratic sense of belonging among young people who, for a plethora of reasons, are more at risk of being exposed to anti-democratic or extremist behaviours. The project, co-financed by the Erasmus+ Programme of the European Union, has seen the collaboration for the past 2 years of 5 partner organisations:

Together, we have first conducted an analysis of some of the most common reasons behind the progressive detachment of some young groups in the partner countries from democracy and the EU values. This meant that we have also talked to professionals working in the field of support of youth at risk of social marginalisation, who have been extremely helpful in shading light on some central aspects, such as a general sense of mistrust towards institutions, fake news, and discrimination.
We have then, based on these dialogues, developed 4 non-formal education products to support these professionals in their everyday life work with young people:
- A Democracy Intervention Set featuring a collection of tools, methodologies and instruments for democracy training.
- A supplementary module on communication and conflict resolution, to help professionals empower and train young people on facing conflictual situation and debates with tolerance and positive dialogue.
- An e-learning plaform, where all the educational materials and activities are available for free download.
- A Transfer Manual aimed at supporting managers in the integration of the REACH YOUth values and principles in the structural functioning of their organisations or institutions
The project could not have ended better, thanks to the active engagement of the students at the Department of Political Sciences, and the support of Professor Rosa Rossi during the final multiplier event.
