{"id":98283,"date":"2021-09-29T09:43:00","date_gmt":"2021-09-29T07:43:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/cesie.org\/?p=98283"},"modified":"2021-10-05T10:00:48","modified_gmt":"2021-10-05T08:00:48","slug":"hopeful-inclusive-education-results","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/cesie.org\/en\/news\/hopeful-inclusive-education-results\/","title":{"rendered":"HOPEFUL: A positive experience for a more inclusive education"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The 2 years <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/cesie.org\/en\/project\/hopeful\/\" data-wpel-link=\"internal\">HOPEFUL - Extending teacHers\u2019 cOmPetences in the effective teaching of literacy, numeracy and digital skills to rEFUgee children<\/a><\/strong> project journey undertaken from 4 European Countries has come to its end.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The project, started in October 2019, has passed through difficult times due to Covid-19 outbreak, nevertheless, the HOPEFUL team, composed by Greece, Italy, Cyprus and coordinated by the Maltese partner, has used all its strengths to implement in the best possible way the project activities, adapting them to the situations and always finding new means and tools to develop an high quality work.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">During the 2-years project, the HOPEFUL team worked to provide tools to address needs and gaps related to the <strong>issue of school inclusion<\/strong>. Indeed, studies and research at EU level, say that, although some progress has been made, teachers still find themselves ill-equipped to provide adequate support and education adapted to the needs of all. This was particularly evident during the first months of the project, during which the partnership carried out further research and interviews with teachers with multicultural classes, who expressed a number of <strong>issues related to the issue of inclusive education<\/strong>, including:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>lack of adequate tools and materials to support teachers in teaching students with a migrant background;<\/li><li>lack of specific teacher training courses on the topic;<\/li><li>Lack of knowledge about inclusion and its meaning.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">With the outbreak of Covid-19 further problems emerged, one of the main ones highlighted by the interviewed teachers was the <strong>lack of digital skills<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The research carried out were therefore totally in line with previous studies, so that the materials and tools developed within the HOPEFUL project were more important and fundamental than ever, especially with the arrival of the pandemic.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In fact, during the two years of the project, the HOPEFUL partnership worked on the development of three main tools to meet these needs:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>A <strong>Capacity Building Curriculum for teachers<\/strong> to help them acquire skills to teach in multicultural classes and to give tools to create cohesive classes, to help teachers and students develop intercultural competences and communicative competences; it is divided in 3 different chapter: 1) Teambuilding; 2) Intercultural dialogue; 3)Experience sharing, culture and interculturality.<\/li><li>A <strong>Diagnostic tool<\/strong> for assessing the learning gaps and needs of students with a migrant background in numeracy, computer science and literacy; it is divided in 2 educational level (lower post primary and upper post primary) and for each level of education there is an annexed <strong>Manual for<\/strong> <strong>Teachers<\/strong>, with guidelines and instructions for the use of the tool, scoring, timings and evaluation grids to evaluate the young student learning needs and gaps.<\/li><li>An <strong>E-Learning Platform<\/strong> containing these tools and a forum for teachers to exchange good practices, to ask questions and to give tips and advices coming from previous experiences or from the implementation of the HOPEFUL tools.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Once developed, the HOPEFUL team shared, presented, tested and evaluated these tools to teachers in order to get direct feedback from the target audience and eventually to adjust or modify them according to teachers\u2019 feedback.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The project ended with a transnational online conference and a series of final local events in each partner country, to present the project and especially the tools developed for them to a wider group of teachers, educators and trainers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The <strong>final event in Italy<\/strong> took place on 22<sup>nd<\/sup> September and was attended by educators, trainers, teachers and other stakeholders interested in knowing more about means and tools for an inclusive education.<br \/>During the event the project has been presented with its platform and the tools developed, and the audience had the possibility to test the tools, ask questions and give us their fundamental opinion and comments on them. The overall opinion was very positive, with teachers interested in using these tools during the upcoming school year.
