{"id":96766,"date":"2021-07-19T15:14:05","date_gmt":"2021-07-19T13:14:05","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/cesie.org\/?p=96766"},"modified":"2021-07-19T15:16:03","modified_gmt":"2021-07-19T13:16:03","slug":"bridges-between-universities-handcraft-society-hands","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/cesie.org\/en\/higher-education-and-research\/bridges-between-universities-handcraft-society-hands\/","title":{"rendered":"Creating bridges between universities and the handcraft society"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Creating high quality vocational career-relevant training programmes based on the expertise of the Syrian and Jordanian craftsmen and craft society: this is the main aim of the <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/cesie.org\/en\/project\/hands\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" data-wpel-link=\"internal\">HANDS<\/a><\/strong> project.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The project born, indeed, from the idea that integrating the vast craft experience and knowledge of the Middle East region into academic programmes is an added value supporting graduates\u2019 employment in the craft sector. Furthermore, the cooperation with the craft society and craftsmen will lead to the development and enhancement of universities and higher education institutions\u2019 capacities in delivering vocational training courses addressing the market needs.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">To achieve its main objectives, the project foresees the following main activities:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><strong>Training activities for the academic staff<\/strong> to improve their capacities in developing and delivering training and teaching material in the craft sector.<\/li><li><strong>Training lectures <\/strong>in competency-based learning to foster the integration of traditional processes in handicraft in study programmes at universities.<\/li><li><strong>Workshops for students <\/strong>based on the cooperation between universities and the craft society in order to provide them with knowledge and skills in line with the market needs.<\/li><li><strong>Collaboration among the consortium universities <\/strong>through the organisation of workshops and meetings to support the exchange of knowledge and teaching approaches.<\/li><li>Development of a<strong> sector database <\/strong>with information on the training material developed and the potential employers.<\/li><li>Development of <strong>career guidance and counselling programmes <\/strong>for students who are studying to work in the craft sector.<\/li><li><strong>Creation of two Craft Vocational Training centres<\/strong>: one in Jordan and one in Syria. These centres are aimed at becoming a reference point for businesses, educational institutions and the craft society for the development of vocational training programmes and activities in the craft field.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Through these activities, the project aims at <strong>creating a bridge between the craft society and the academic world<\/strong> providing more employment opportunities to graduates in the field. Craftsmen will bring their knowledge of traditional and innovative craft techniques for the design and production processes. This will allow students to develop their abilities in craft techniques by being involved in different training and outreach programmes involving the participation of master craftsmen who will transfer their knowledge and experience.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This will also support the <strong>development of knowledge and competences among the academic staff<\/strong> in creating vocational training programmes in the craft sector based on traditional techniques and on the use of innovative and new technologies for the design and production processes. The training programmes will also aim at improving the marketing capacities of students as well as of the craftsmen through their involvement in academic courses. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In this context, the <strong>continuous cooperation and dialogue among the Middle Eastern and the European Union universities<\/strong> is an added value as it allows them to enrich their knowledge and skills in providing high quality vocational training courses and programmes that can fully support the employment opportunities of their students. Workshops and capacity building activities have been and will be organised to support the exchange of experiences and practices.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-about-the-project\">About the project<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><a href=\"https:\/\/cesie.org\/en\/project\/hands\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" data-wpel-link=\"internal\">HANDS - Traditional craft Heritage trAining, desigN and marketing in jorDan and Syria<\/a> is a 3-year project funded by the European Union under the Erasmus+ - Capacity Building in the field of Higher Education programme.
