Young offending has never been a simple matter. In fact, Western countries have tended to sit along a continuum with welfare approaches on the one side and justice approaches on the other in perpetual tension. This has led to often-contradictory and uneven policies and practices such as the \u201crisk management\u201d or the \u201cchild-friendly\u201d approaches to juvenile justice system present since the 1900s.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
What it is indeed clear, is the need to focus on the social and emotional competences<\/strong> of these young people as they have proven to have positive outcomes in adult life and the potential sporting activities has on this endeavour.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Mindful of these considerations, the AG4C<\/strong><\/a> project takes sports and physical activity<\/strong> as a starting point for young people in conflict with the law and at risk<\/strong> to develop these competences in a playful and innovative way.<\/p>\n\n\n\n AG4C will use the Warwick-Edinburgh well-being scale<\/strong><\/a> <\/strong>(WEMWBS) to assess the development of self-awareness, self-management, responsible decision-making, relationship skills and social awareness, all vital socio-emotional competences<\/strong> for the autonomy and social re-integration of the young people.
