Nowadays, we are exposed to an immense quantity of data and information coming from a wide variety of sources: social media, whatsapp messages, news, just to make some examples. These inevitably influence our way of thinking and our identity as citizens.<\/p>\n
The term digital citizenship has become more frequently used in recent years, defining participation to the online society. Digital citizens bear the same rights and duties as in real life, starting from the informed use of public administration online services. As expressed in the European Council Recommendation on Key Competences for Lifelong Learning<\/strong>, digital competence is one of those knowledge, skills and attitudes needed for personal growth, employability, social inclusion and active citizenship.<\/p>\n Digital data literacy fosters critical thinking, reflection, responsibility and curiosity. Sharing data is fundamental for research, development, responsible policy-making, democracy. These topics were discussed during the online Social Caf\u00e8 \u201cTecnologia per tutt*\u201d,<\/strong> organized on 15th<\/sup> October 2020, during the Erasmus+ days.<\/p>\n You can watch it at the following links (Italian only):<\/p>\n On the basis of these premises, the Erasmus+ project D3<\/strong> aims to improve teachers and students\u2019 competences and overcome skill mismatches between secondary education and employment opportunities. Most schools in Europe still do not offer any tailored course on the use of digital data and there is often lack of professionals\u2019 adequate skills. D3 aims to provide innovative didactic material for the promotion of active citizenship through digital tools. All the products will support youngsters strengthen their critical thinking in the use of open data, connect to policy makers and possibly influence their choices.<\/p>\n The first resource is already available online: The European Comparative Review<\/strong> (English): https:\/\/cesie.org\/media\/D3-Comparative-Review-CESIE.pdf<\/a><\/p>\n The review is an analysis of digital data literacy opportunities in school curricula, qualifications and availability of digital open data tools in secondary school, including guidelines and frameworks for inclusion of such data and related competences.<\/p>\n Project partners are currently working on an online training course for teachers about the use of open data and digital technologies in secondary education. Next steps include a toolkit of resources and materials for the integration of open data in schools and an online gallery of case studies in this field.<\/p>\n\n
