Having a volunteering experience abroad had always been something I wanted to do, and earlier this year I decided to finally step forward on that decision.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
I had never been to Sicily before, but I was very curious about the cultural diversity and the idea of living a different reality, socially and economically. Palermo is a very welcoming city, although I needed some time to get used to it. It\u2019s quite different from Portugal, as here there\u2019s more poverty and some people might be a bit closed minded, but overall it was just a matter of a couple of days to accept it. Either way, Palermo\u2019s beauty is undeniable, with lots of things to see and appreciate in every corner. All the colours, the streets and landmarks, the Mediterranean Sea and of course the food! It\u2019s a must to explore not only Palermo, but the entire island. I\u2019ve been to some places already and I\u2019m always looking forward to the next trip. All this, paired with some amazing and caring people I\u2019ve met here, in work and other volunteers, definitely contributed to an easy adaptation to life in Palermo.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
My work is in the visibility and communication department in Cesie\u2019s office, helping with websites, photography, video and graphic design. This has been a plus, being able to work on my area of studies while learning about new things at the same time. This EVS has been the perfect opportunity for me to give my contribution to Cesie, while experiencing a different place, meeting new people, travelling, and last but definitely not least, filling my belly with delicious food.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Finally, I can only say I\u2019m truly glad I came to Palermo, as this has been an incredible experience so far. I\u2019ve learned that we always easily learn something new in each place we go and with the people we come across.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

EVS (European Voluntary Service) is an international volunteer program funded by the European Commission. It enables all young people legally resident in Europe, aged between 18 and 30 years, to carry out an international volunteer service in an organization or in a public body in Europe, Africa, Asia or South America for a period ranging from 2 to 12 months.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
