As a result of the refugee crisis in recent decades, many EU Member States currently have high percentages of young migrants and refugees with low education attainment and many of them, despite being of school age, have never had the opportunity to attend school or had to leave school prematurely. The integration of young migrants and refugees into education systems has therefore become an important topic among the EU Member States.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Considering that most migrant and refugee minors, newly arrived, do not speak the language of the host country and\/or English and most of them have left school for long periods, teachers need specific knowledge and skills<\/strong> to be able to pursue learning pathways better adapted to their needs and to the management of socially vulnerable children.<\/p>\n\n\n\n This is the context in which the HOPEFUL<\/strong> project was born; it aims at enhancing the school performance of refugee and migrant children<\/strong> through the development and improvement of<\/strong> secondary school teachers' capabilities in teaching literacy, numeracy and digital skills<\/strong>, at the same time pursuing the improvement of the quality and efficiency of education and a successful integration of migrant and refugee children into the national education system.<\/p>\n\n\n\n In November the project consortium met in Malta to undertake the first steps towards the achievement of the project\u2019s aims and to structure the actions foreseen within the project<\/strong>, which are:<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u200b<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u200bHOPEFUL - <\/strong>Extending teacHers' cOmPetences in the effective teaching of literacy, numeracy and digital skills to rEFUgee children<\/strong><\/a> is a 2 years project co-funded by the European Commission under the Erasmus+ programme, KA2 \u2013 Strategic partnership in school education<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n
