{"id":65198,"date":"2019-07-31T11:25:10","date_gmt":"2019-07-31T09:25:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/cesie.org\/?p=65198"},"modified":"2025-09-03T17:18:09","modified_gmt":"2025-09-03T15:18:09","slug":"base-cooperation-support-sgbv-victims","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/cesie.org\/en\/justice\/base-cooperation-support-sgbv-victims\/","title":{"rendered":"BASE &#8211; Transnational Cooperation of experts from support services for victims of SGBV"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">What is now being more and more recognized is that&nbsp;<strong>sexual and gender-based violence&nbsp;<\/strong>is part of the whole&nbsp;<strong>migration<\/strong>&nbsp;cycle, it's part of the reasons why people leave, either because of violence or because of deprivation, it is part of the journey through a number of transit countries, and it can be also a part of the reality in the host communities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">What is also now more and more recognized is the necessity to support migrant women and girls, to implement&nbsp;<strong>individualized analysis<\/strong>&nbsp;of the situation of a person who might have suffered violence, to&nbsp;<strong>provide specific care<\/strong>&nbsp;to respond to that situation and to&nbsp;<strong>increase knowledge of professionals<\/strong>&nbsp;working in this field about solutions that are specially tailored to victims and survivors of SGBV.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">With this in mind, the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/cesie.org\/en\/project\/base\/\" data-wpel-link=\"internal\"><strong>BASE Migrant and refugee child-friendly support services in cases of sexual and gender-based violence<\/strong><\/a>&nbsp;project aims to contribute to improvement of&nbsp;<strong>support services for victims of violence<\/strong>&nbsp;and&nbsp;<strong>empower migrant\/refugee women<\/strong>&nbsp;as&nbsp;<strong>cultural advisors<\/strong>; increase the capacity of&nbsp;<strong>support professionals&nbsp;<\/strong>to understand sociocultural factors and&nbsp;<strong>communicate effectively&nbsp;<\/strong>with migrant\/ refugee survivors of gender-based violence, and raise public awareness on the vulnerability of migrant\/ refugee girls to gender-based violence.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">First&nbsp;<strong>Transnational Cooperation meeting<\/strong>&nbsp;of the BASE project gathered 32 experts working within&nbsp;<strong>support services for migrant victims of sexual and gender-based violence<\/strong>&nbsp;from 8 EU countries on the 1st of July in Coimbra, Portugal.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Experts from the&nbsp;<strong>public authorities<\/strong>&nbsp;and&nbsp;<strong>organisations<\/strong>&nbsp;working with victims and survivors of SGBV during one-day intensive event:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>reflected on the findings of the BASE research on sexual and gender-based violence towards girls from migrant\/refugee background in Cyprus, Portugal, Bulgaria, Greece, the UK, Austria, Italy and Slovenia (finding will be published soon on CESIE\u2019s website);<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>analysed country contexts and specific support services for migrant\/ refugee women survivors of SGBV or those at risk in each country;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>discussed the challenges to support migrant\/refugee girls and women survivors of SGBV, and<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>debated solutions, proposals and strategies to respond to the challenges.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The discussions were focused around 4 main themes: gender-related vulnerabilities and communication, access to services and facilities, sexual and reproductive health issues, partnerships and inter-institutional collaboration.
