After the detailed research on the needs of care leavers and care professionals<\/a>, after the successful launch of the INTEGRA network<\/strong><\/a> in Palermo to support the autonomy processes of children and youth who are about to leave residential care facilities, we are starting to develop a Mentoring Integration Programm<\/strong>e<\/strong>!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

What is this Mentoring Integration Programme (or MIP)?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

We agree that autonomy is highly important competence for all people, especially for those who soon will have to leave residential care facilities and start their own independent life. Often knowledge and skills that children and youth get before leaving residential centres is not enough and unluckily they are not fully ready to face the challenges in the external world.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In these cases, the role of the mentor <\/strong>is extremely important. Mentor is a person who guides a less experienced person by supporting in daily situations<\/strong>, explaining about the system<\/strong>, showing an example<\/strong>. Mentoring is a relationship<\/strong> resulting in the provision of support, friendship and constructive role modelling consistently over a period of time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Since mentoring has to be constructive, we agreed on the need to develop a mentoring programme that can be used by care professionals who are working with migrant children and youth and we have discussed the content during the INTEGRA partners meeting in Coimbra, Portugal on 6-7 June 2019.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The MIP will be designed based on the needs collected during the research<\/a> and will be divided into 8 pillars (modules) each providing activities and mentoring path that care professionals can put into the practice, implement with children and youth who are about the leave care facilities, hence preparing them for their autonomy. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Will there be a training for mentors?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Once the programme will be ready (around November 2019) we will organise and implement a training course for care professionals from the INTEGRA network <\/strong>(and not only) to become effective mentors and support children and youth across all partner countries and in Palermo!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Can someone still join INTEGRA network?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Of course! INTEGRA network is open to everyone. You can always become a part of the network and contribute to the exchange of information about opportunities for un-accompanied minors and youth.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

About the project<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

INTEGRA \u2013 Multidisciplinary Mentorship program to support the entrepreneurship of children in care and young care-leavers<\/a> is co-funded by the Rights, Equality and Citizenship Programme of the European Commission.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The INTEGRA approach envisions a personalised participatory framework<\/strong>, where the stakeholders take the role of guiding, connecting, mediating and supporting the children in the restoration process of new reference points for their future socio-economic inclusion as a persona integra<\/em> into the community<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
