{"id":60423,"date":"2019-05-29T10:11:30","date_gmt":"2019-05-29T08:11:30","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/cesie.org\/?p=60423"},"modified":"2025-08-28T16:00:11","modified_gmt":"2025-08-28T14:00:11","slug":"safer-attitudes-gender-teachers-palermo","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/cesie.org\/en\/news\/safer-attitudes-gender-teachers-palermo\/","title":{"rendered":"SAFER: Reflecting on our attitudes towards gender with teachers in Palermo"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201c<em>I want a future free of gender-based violence<\/em>\u201d and \u201c<em>Embracy equality now<\/em>\u201d are the main slogans of a short video that SAFER project is developing in order to raise awareness of primary school teachers, students, parents and all interested about gender-based violence.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">However, in this article we are not going to talk about the short video as it is still under the development.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>SAFER didactic materials<\/strong>&nbsp;were already developed! Now we are implementing piloting training sessions with teachers across the schools in Palermo to test it and improve it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Teachers who participate in the trainings have opportunity to reflect on their attitudes and preconceptions regarding&nbsp;<strong>gender stereotypes<\/strong>&nbsp;and&nbsp;<strong>roles<\/strong>. They have opportunity to increase their knowledge&nbsp;<strong>about gender-based violence<\/strong>&nbsp;and learn new strategies to prevent it before it happens. Moreover, teachers have a chance to try different activities from 4 well connected and complementary modules:&nbsp;<strong>Gender-sensitive pedagogy, Resilience, Life Skills and Character education modules<\/strong>. Those activities they can implement with their students to:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Get children to think about positive concepts associated with gender equality and to reflect on gender equality.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Create awareness of common gender roles and expectations.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Develop an understanding of the negative effects of gender stereotyping and related behaviours.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Get children to critically reflect on their attitudes towards gender and gender-based violence.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>And much more..<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>Gender-sensitive pedagogy is not meant to discriminate against boys, nor is it meant to focus on one gender.
