{"id":59234,"date":"2019-02-28T10:40:53","date_gmt":"2019-02-28T09:40:53","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/cesie.org\/?p=59234"},"modified":"2025-08-28T11:21:01","modified_gmt":"2025-08-28T09:21:01","slug":"remembrance-education-critical-thinking-rethink-research","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/cesie.org\/en\/adult\/remembrance-education-critical-thinking-rethink-research\/","title":{"rendered":"Can remembrance education stimulate critical thinking among young students?Contribute to RETHINK research"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong><br \/>How to use Remembrance Education to stimulate the development of critical thinking among young students?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">To answer this question, the partners of the project&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/cesie.org\/en\/project\/rethink\/\" data-wpel-link=\"internal\">RETHINK - Remembrance Education for THINKing critically<\/a>. are developing different tools for teachers and educators.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In the first phase of the project the partners have collected\u00a0<strong>good educational practices developed by memorials, museums, organisations and educational centres active in the field of Remembrance Education<\/strong>. The practices were collected in the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/rethink-education.eu\/practices\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener external noreferrer\" title=\"\" data-wpel-link=\"external\">RETHINK Database<\/a>, which allows teachers and educators to search for activities according to geographical, content and accessibility criteria.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In the current phase of the project, the partners have worked on the&nbsp;<strong>selection of some practices to adapt them to the work of the teachers and make them feasible in a school context<\/strong>. A specific Handbook will be drawn up, aimed at teachers and educators interested in working with Remembrance Education to work on the critical thinking skills of students.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">During the meeting held in Mechelen on February 2nd and 3rd, in addition to better defining the practices and contents of the Manual, three new project partners presented their activities:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.jhi.pl\/en\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener external noreferrer\" title=\"\" data-wpel-link=\"external\">Emanuel Ringelblum Jewish Historical Institute<\/a>, one of the most important research institutes on the Polish and Central European Jewish community;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/hetireland.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener external noreferrer\" title=\"\" data-wpel-link=\"external\">Holocaust Education Trust Ireland<\/a>, which runs activities and events as well as teacher training programmes and international initiatives related to the Holocaust;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.erinnern.at\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener external noreferrer\" title=\"\" data-wpel-link=\"external\">Erinnern.at<\/a>\u00a0is the Institute for Holocaust Education of the Federal Ministry of Education, Science and Research in Austria.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In the next phase of the project,\u00a0<strong>an\u00a0<\/strong><a href=\"https:\/\/rethink-education.eu\/elearning-platform\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener external noreferrer\" title=\"\" data-wpel-link=\"external\">e-learning platform<\/a><strong>\u00a0will be set up to provide teachers with pedagogical tools to challenge students' prejudices, deepen their understanding of phenomena such as racism and radicalisation, and develop their critical thinking skills.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">To this purpose,\u00a0<strong>we are conducting a survey of teachers' experience<\/strong>\u00a0of teaching about current (and past) sensitive and controversial issues.
