A few weeks ago the\u00a0third cycle<\/a>\u00a0of the\u00a0Ragazzi Harraga<\/a>\u00a0workshops was initiated.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The different laboratories (Dance, Rights and Interculturalism)<\/strong> are attended by many young people who live in the areas of Palermo and in its provinces, coming from diverse countries and cultures.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Boys and girls coming from Palermo and Italy, Gambia, Senegal, Nigeria, Ivory Coast, Mali etc. and volunteers coming from different European countries have the opportunity to share and discuss<\/strong> between each other on topics such as intercultural and interreligious dialogue, active citizenship<\/strong>, becoming protagonist of their own life choices, as well as the challenges and benefits of living together<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This comparison is done through non-formal educational activities, discussion in groups, role playing, and activities based on dance and movement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

These boys and girls are demonstrating to us that reciprocal knowledge is the only weapon to counter mistrust, generalizations and fear of what seems different; behaviours that racism is based on<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

They said:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cTo know is to stop hating; to know is to discover that the other is less different than what it appears\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We add: to know is recognise oneself, to discover the other not only outside but inside us <\/em>(Don Luigi Ciotti, 2019)<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

Consequently, a common effort must be made by all sides so as to bring together different 'worlds', while at the same time to understand each other successfully, we should all remain open to listening and undoing of judgment that is rooted inside us.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
