{"id":53846,"date":"2018-03-21T17:14:08","date_gmt":"2018-03-21T16:14:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/cesie.org\/migration\/integrated-promoting-the-inclusion-of-tcn-learners-in-secondary-education\/"},"modified":"2025-06-18T16:43:18","modified_gmt":"2025-06-18T14:43:18","slug":"integrated-promoting-the-inclusion-of-tcn-learners-in-secondary-education","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/cesie.org\/en\/migration\/integrated-promoting-the-inclusion-of-tcn-learners-in-secondary-education\/","title":{"rendered":"IntegratEd: Promoting the inclusion of TCN learners in secondary education"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">According to\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.consilium.europa.eu\/en\/policies\/migratory-pressures\/integration-policy\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener external noreferrer\" title=\"\" data-wpel-link=\"external\">European Council and the Council of the EU<\/a>, there are 2<strong>0 million non-EU nationals living in Europe<\/strong>\u00a0- 4% of the EU's total population. The relocation and resettlement measures adopted in response to the refugee and migrant crisis have emphasised the need to\u00a0<strong>support member states with less experience with integration<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This includes the need to&nbsp;<strong>develop approaches and tools that can support schools in managing students coming from third countries<\/strong>&nbsp;and their interaction with native students&nbsp;<strong>creating intercultural environments<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><a href=\"https:\/\/cesie.org\/en\/project\/integrated\/\" data-wpel-link=\"internal\">IntegratEd<\/a>&nbsp;wants to develop a holistic approach:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>to\u00a0<strong>support teachers, school heads and not teaching school staff in<\/strong><strong>\u00a0their daily job\u00a0<\/strong>with the students to\u00a0<strong>contrast early school leaving and repudiate discrimination<\/strong>;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>to\u00a0<strong>create an educational community helping the students\u00a0<\/strong>to improve their\u00a0<strong>scholastic performances<\/strong>\u00a0and become main actor of their<strong>\u00a0educational path and social inclusion<\/strong>;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>to\u00a0<strong>favor experiences and good practices exchange\u00a0<\/strong>in the field of\u00a0<strong>scholastic education and inclusion of students coming from third countries<\/strong>;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>to promote the development of a\u00a0<strong>comprehensive model of educational support<\/strong>;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>to sensitize on the\u00a0<strong>role of the education in promoting an inclusive society<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Teachers and school staff will gain and develop knowledge and skills on how to foster the inclusion of newly arrived TCN students and to support them in their educational process.&nbsp;<strong>This support model will involve the whole school community<\/strong>: teachers, school leaders, school staff; students, both migrants and natives; parents and families; local community.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">We would support schools in managing multicultural environments through:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>a\u00a0<strong>Mentoring Programme\u00a0<\/strong>for high school TCN students by older students with a migrant background to support them in the educational path as well as the school in managing cultural differences;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>training Activities\u00a0<\/strong>for teachers and school staff on intercultural competences and management of intercultural environments;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>activities to\u00a0<strong>foster parents\u2019 involvement,\u00a0<\/strong>in particular the ones of TCN students, in their children educational process;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>an\u00a0<strong>Education Support Platform\u00a0<\/strong>that will allow students, in particular TCNs, to be supported also outside the school context.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">On the 20th and 21st February, representatives from the 6 partner organisations met in Athens (Greece) to get to know each other and discuss the first steps of the project.
