Is it possible to favor new entrepreneurial initiatives<\/strong> and support the migrant women inclusion into the workforce<\/strong>?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Last week, the first part of the training course on entrepreneurship skills<\/strong> of the ARISE<\/a> project ended up.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The first training cycle<\/strong>, composed by five workshops<\/strong>, was devoted to the discovery and development of the transversal skills<\/strong>, which are both useful and paramount to set up a successful business based on strong human bonds<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The participants to this training course are migrant and\/or refugee women who live in the city of Palermo<\/strong>; their countries of origin span from Senegal, Nigeria, Ivory Coast, Kenya, Morocco to Syria and Chile<\/strong>. What brought them together is the shared passion and will to open a business in Palermo<\/strong>. The vast majority would like to open a restaurant<\/strong>, so to make locals discover the receipts and tastes of their home countries<\/strong>, as well as try to create new and innovative mix with the local cuisine<\/strong>; others would like to open small shops to make and sell their traditional delicatessen, artisanal and local products<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Together with the trainer, they undertook a process of self-awareness, raising and strengthening of their already acquired competences<\/strong>:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

  1. Analysing and sharing their\u00a0fears, weaknesses and strengths<\/strong>;<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  2. Focusing on their\u00a0verbal communication skills, their body language expression<\/strong>\u00a0and their active listening skills, while keeping in mind the importance that\u00a0cultural differences<\/strong>\u00a0play when we interact with people coming from countries and backgrounds which are different from our own;<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  3. Working on\u00a0team-work and smooth\/efficient<\/strong>\u00a0management of group dynamics<\/strong>, on how to best apply\u00a0conflict resolution strategies<\/strong>\u00a0and on how to\u00a0spot natural leadership skills and attitudes<\/strong>\u00a0both on others and on themselves;<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  4. Drawing up the best strategies to\u00a0master effective negotiation skills<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n

    The learning flow<\/strong> was extremely smooth, organic and fully participative<\/strong>, it accounted for a great deal of active and passionate involvement for the women<\/strong>, who contributed and enriched the debates with their knowledge, their life experiences, opinions and suggestions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    The main goal of this first cycle of workshops was to provide the participants with a strong baseline<\/strong> upon which they will develop some more technical competences<\/strong> that are necessary to start up a business<\/strong>, indeed. During the second cycle of the training, a business coach will help them acquire all the tools to create a business model canvas<\/strong>, a sustainable business plan <\/strong>and the means to conduct the feasibility study and assessments<\/strong> prior their debut in the business market of Palermo.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    The ARISE learning path is just at the beginning!<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

    We wish our participants best luck and we truly hope that at the end of this project they will manage to make their dreams of becoming successful entrepreneurs a reality, for the sake of their own fulfillment and to enrich our city with their ideas and their ventures.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
