{"id":53712,"date":"2017-12-20T10:01:31","date_gmt":"2017-12-20T09:01:31","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/cesie.org\/news\/inteled-interactive-multi-sensory-techniques-and-embodied-education-for-sen-students-development\/"},"modified":"2025-06-18T12:17:13","modified_gmt":"2025-06-18T10:17:13","slug":"inteled-interactive-multi-sensory-techniques-and-embodied-education-for-sen-students-development","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/cesie.org\/en\/news\/inteled-interactive-multi-sensory-techniques-and-embodied-education-for-sen-students-development\/","title":{"rendered":"INTELed: Interactive multi-sensory techniques and Embodied Education for SEN students development"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">How to support&nbsp;<strong>teachers<\/strong>&nbsp;in their daily work with&nbsp;<strong>SEN children<\/strong>?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">How to&nbsp;<strong>integrate interactive multi-sensory techniques<\/strong>&nbsp;for learning and assessment&nbsp;<strong>in classrooms<\/strong>?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The INTELed project aims:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>to\u00a0<strong>support teachers in acquiring knowledge and skills\u00a0<\/strong>about the use of<strong>\u00a0multi-sensory technology\u00a0<\/strong>for\u00a0<strong>addressing the needs of Special Education Need (SEN) children\u00a0<\/strong>in inclusive education contexts;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>to\u00a0<strong>develop a methodological framework for training teachers\u00a0<\/strong>based on\u00a0<strong>embodied cognition,\u00a0<\/strong>research on\u00a0<strong>embodied learning<\/strong>\u00a0and the premise of\u00a0<strong>multi-sensory technologies.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In turn, the overarching goal of the project is the&nbsp;<strong>integration of these techniques in the school classrooms<\/strong>, thus contributing in&nbsp;<strong>students\u2019 academic, social and emotional development<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Key innovative characteristics of the INTELed project:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>to push from theoretical assumptions to practical experiences in\u00a0<strong>complex classroom realities\u00a0<\/strong>where\u00a0<strong>children of different levels of ability and disability coexist<\/strong>;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>to stimulate\u00a0<strong>audio-visual, kinesthetic and playful learning\u00a0<\/strong>driven by research on\u00a0<strong>embodied learning<\/strong>;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>to adopts a\u00a0<strong>holistic approach to the education of SEN children\u00a0<\/strong>with a focus on academic goals as well as emotional and social aspects;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>to create a\u00a0<strong>community of practice<\/strong>\u00a0and realization of the need for an upgrade for the current teacher training programmes;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>to build on\u00a0<strong>the extensive expertise<\/strong>\u00a0of the consortium on\u00a0<strong>innovative pedagogical approaches in SEN and inclusive education<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">We participated in the first meeting between the partners of the INTELed project that took place at the\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.cut.ac.cy\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener external noreferrer\" title=\"\" data-wpel-link=\"external\">Cyprus University of Technology<\/a>\u00a0on the\u00a0<strong>20<sup>th<\/sup>\u00a0- 21th November<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The kickoff meeting began with an introductory speech by\u00a0<strong>Prof. Panayiotis Zaphiris<\/strong>\u00a0presenting the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.socialcomputing.eu\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener external noreferrer\" title=\"\" data-wpel-link=\"external\">Social Computing Research Center<\/a>, which is the multidisciplinary research center of social computing of the Cyprus University of Technology.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Next,\u00a0<strong>Dr. Andri Ioannou<\/strong>\u00a0gave an introductory speech presenting the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cyprusinteractionlab.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener external noreferrer\" title=\"\" data-wpel-link=\"external\">Cyprus Interaction Lab<\/a>, which is the first lab of its kind in Cyprus dealing with topics in\u00a0<strong>human computer interaction and educational technology<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In addition, the 4 partners had the opportunity to define the project\u2019s framework as well as the timelines of the project, while they also discussed and exchanged their views, focusing on the best accomplishment of the INTELed project\u2019s goals.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The kickoff meeting concluded with the partners\u2019 visit at the Cyprus Interaction Lab (CIL). During the visit, the CIL staff guided the partners at the CIL premises, while also demonstrating the available technologies and equipment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The next consortium meeting will take place in June 2018 at the University of Piraeus.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">About the project<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><a href=\"https:\/\/cesie.org\/en\/project\/inteled\/\" data-wpel-link=\"internal\">INTELed<\/a>&nbsp;is co-funded by the Erasmus+ Programme, KA2: Cooperation for innovation and the exchange of good practices -
