The increasing flow of migrant in Europe<\/strong> has brought many educational challenges<\/strong> in hosting countries: from the reception in primary schools to the access to higher education and universities<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

The project WELCOME – <\/strong>Welcome to Universities and Higher Education<\/strong><\/a> aims to improve and extend opportunities in higher education for refugees through the exchange of good practices<\/strong> and new ideas between partner organizations and other associations and institutions.<\/p>\n

Representative of the WELCOME<\/strong> project\u2019s partner organizations met in Palermo from 9th<\/sup> to 10th<\/sup> November 2017<\/strong> to discuss the migration phenomenon in Italy and Sicily<\/strong> and its related challenges. The meeting has been an occasion to further analyzing the project topic and share new ideas and inputs on how to facilitate the access to higher education for refugees, asylum seekers and migrants<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Good practices presented<\/h1>\n

University for Refugees<\/h2>\n

The on-line university of Rome Uninettuno<\/a> has created an online platform for migrants<\/a> where it is possible to follow university courses from all over the world<\/strong>. The platform allows the recognition of educational qualifications previously earned by refugees and migrants<\/strong> in their countries of origin and the recognition of their professional competences <\/strong>in order to facilitate their access to Uninettuno degrees, mater\u2019s and vocational training courses<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Comunit\u00e0 Exodos<\/h2>\n

Partners met a member of Comunit\u00e0 Exodos Palermo<\/a>: a group of young people who offer private lessons for disadvantaged young people<\/strong>, helping them to develop both their knowledge of the Italian language <\/strong>and their critical thinking <\/strong>through the organization of numerous seminars and debates<\/strong> on different issues.<\/p>\n

Guidance and Tutoring Center<\/h2>\n

Furthermore, the services offered<\/strong> by the University of Palermo<\/a> for foreign students<\/strong> have been presented. In particular, the Foreign Students Orientation and Reception Desk<\/strong> that provides various services such as information on:<\/p>\n
