{"id":53536,"date":"2017-09-26T11:59:38","date_gmt":"2017-09-26T09:59:38","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/cesie.org\/research\/great-results-for-the-young-italian-phd-students-participanting-to-the-scient-business-plan-competition\/"},"modified":"2025-07-31T14:51:06","modified_gmt":"2025-07-31T12:51:06","slug":"great-results-for-the-young-italian-phd-students-participanting-to-the-scient-business-plan-competition","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/cesie.org\/en\/higher-education-and-research\/great-results-for-the-young-italian-phd-students-participanting-to-the-scient-business-plan-competition\/","title":{"rendered":"Great results for the young Italian PhD students participanting to the SCIENT Business Plan Competition"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><br \/>Exciting results for the&nbsp;<strong>PhD students and researchers of the&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.unipa.it\/\" data-wpel-link=\"external\" rel=\"external noopener noreferrer\">University of Palermo<\/a><\/strong>&nbsp;who participated in the&nbsp;<strong>International Business Plan Competition<\/strong>&nbsp;of the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/cesie.org\/en\/project\/scient\/\" data-wpel-link=\"internal\">SCIENT<\/a>&nbsp;project: among the&nbsp;<strong>21 entrepreneurial ideas from 7 different countries<\/strong>&nbsp;participating in the competition,&nbsp;<strong>the young Sicilian entrepreneurs won the second, third and fourth place and win the special prize for the most disruptive innovative idea<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">From 11 to 14 September, the&nbsp;<strong>SCIENT Business Plan Competition<\/strong>&nbsp;took place in Nicosia (Cyprus).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">About&nbsp;<strong>30 students from 7 different Countries<\/strong>&nbsp;\u2013 Cyprus, Italy, Lithuania, Malta, Portugal, UK, Spain \u2013 presented their&nbsp;<strong>entrepreneurial ideas<\/strong>&nbsp;to a select audience of&nbsp;<strong>experts, teachers and potential funders<\/strong>. Ideas have been evaluated by an&nbsp;<strong>international jury<\/strong>&nbsp;based on criteria such as:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>customer value proposition,<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>competitive advantage,<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>potential market,<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>description and effectiveness of the business model,<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>team,<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>level of innovation.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>The delegation of the University of Palermo<\/strong>, made by the&nbsp;<strong>5 best business ideas<\/strong>&nbsp;selected after the phase of&nbsp;<strong>training<\/strong>,&nbsp;<strong>study visits<\/strong>&nbsp;at local companies and transnational&nbsp;<strong>job shadowing mobility<\/strong>, achieved excellent results in the final ranking of the participating business ideas:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Rodolfo Mauceri<\/strong>&nbsp;obtained the&nbsp;<strong>second prize<\/strong>&nbsp;thanks to his idea&nbsp;<strong><em>OsseoGuide<\/em><\/strong>, designed for the&nbsp;<strong>simplification o<\/strong><strong>f the surgical procedures&nbsp;<\/strong>needed&nbsp;<strong>for guided bone regeneration in dentistry<\/strong>. Indeed,&nbsp;<em>OsseoGuide<\/em>&nbsp;aim is to&nbsp;<strong>provide to clinicians a patient 3D specific graft<\/strong>, in order to r<strong>estore singular bone defect in the oral cavity<\/strong>, based on a computer tomography scan of the same patient.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Giovanni Roberto Compagno<\/strong>, along with&nbsp;<strong>Davide Di Fatta<\/strong>, have been awarded the&nbsp;<strong>third prize<\/strong>&nbsp;thanks to the&nbsp;<strong><em>cLass Solar Bags<\/em><\/strong>, an entrepreneurial project stemming from the constant battery charge for smartphones. The solution proposed is&nbsp;<strong>a fashionable and stylish accessory with the functional feature of grabbing a solar panel&nbsp;<\/strong>to produce&nbsp;<strong>renewable energy<\/strong>&nbsp;in the bag itself.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Fourth place<\/strong>, instead, for&nbsp;<strong><em>Zingales Shoes<\/em><\/strong>, the start-up created by&nbsp;<strong>Vincenzo Zingales<\/strong>&nbsp;for the production of<strong>&nbsp;luxury, handcrafted and tailor made footwear&nbsp;<\/strong>\u2013 made with&nbsp;<strong>animal cruelty free materials<\/strong>&nbsp;for the promotion of&nbsp;<strong>sustainable<\/strong>,&nbsp;<strong>ethical<\/strong>&nbsp;and&nbsp;<strong>responsible fashion products<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Simona Todaro<\/strong>&nbsp;presented&nbsp;<strong><em>GEB Track<\/em><\/strong>, for the creation of a&nbsp;<strong><em>social<\/em>&nbsp;bus<\/strong>, obtained from the&nbsp;<strong>re-adaptation of a standard truck<\/strong>, which can&nbsp;<strong>accompany naturalistic tourists in off-road routes<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Special Jury Award for the Highly Innovative Content<\/strong>&nbsp;to&nbsp;<strong><em>EyeHome<\/em><\/strong>&nbsp;by&nbsp;<strong>Salvatore Tramonte<\/strong>,&nbsp;<strong>Valeria Minutella<\/strong>&nbsp;and&nbsp;<strong>Giacomo Urso<\/strong>, a&nbsp;<strong>revolutionary system for integrating a modular smart home system with an eye controlled based interface<\/strong>.
